Greetings to all of you,
We wanted to give you a quick update on Jackie Nakabugo’s visit to the United States. It has been a beautiful 3 weeks thus far. We have ten new sponsors in our African Hope Children’s Ministry sponsorship program. Jackie’s heart is thrilled!! We know that God will continue to bring just the right sponsors to stand with us and our 32 students in Uganda. Thank you to those of you who have so faithfully supported these students over the past year. Welcome aboard to our new sponsors. Our hearts are overflowing with gratitude.
We had a fabulous visit to Bossier City, Louisiana where Jackie spoke to 4 school assemblies at Stockwell Place Elementary School. Hats off to Jenny Towns and her two children Olivia and Court who asked their school to join them in raising $11,000 to build a water well in Nakasongola. We can’t wait to walk in the school’s walkathon on May 2nd. Thank-you to the Towns family for putting their dream into action!
We also spent time in Lufkin and Willis, Texas. Jackie visited a precious 1st and 2nd grade classroom where my cousin Jim is a mentor. Seems like the kids and their wonderful teachers were really inspired by Jackie’s visit because Jim is now reading Ryan and Jimmy and the well in Uganda that brought them together with the students. We’re believing that another water well is going to come from this. My cousin Mari Ann hosted us for several nights as Jackie shared with the sweet ladies in my Aunt Lou’s church. Jackie was truly blessed.
Thank-you to so many of you who have invited Jackie to dinner and who have arranged for her to speak with your friends and family. She travels to California this coming Thursday, April 18 and will return on Thursday, April 25. We will then get ready for our return trip to Louisiana around April 29. Jackie returns to Uganda on May 8th so if you’d still like to meet with her, please email me or give me a call at 210-599-2763.
Finally, I encourage ALL sponsors to take a few moments to write your student a letter. A letter from you is like GOLD to these young people. Share the love of Christ with them. Encourage them in their studies. Jackie will be thrilled to carry your letters back to Uganda with her. Please send your letter to us by May 1st. You may send your letter to: African Hope Children’s Ministry

With much, much love,
Kelly and Jack Witteman and Jackie Nakabugo Sewava
My niece and I visited our friends Jonathan and Jackie Sewava for two weeks in January, 2013. Jonathan and Jackie direct Unreached Africa, a registered ministry in Uganda. I first met them in the summer of 2007 during a mission trip to Uganda. Both Jonathan and Jackie had been sponsored students as they were growing up. Jonathan had been to Bible College and his passion for reaching the unreached with the Gospel of Christ was evident. Jackie had received extensive leadership training and had spoken in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia on behalf of child sponsorship. My husband and I have sponsored many students since 1982 through two different organizations. Sponsorship is something we believe in because we have seen first hand how it offers students in poverty a hope and a future.
Since 2010 we have been working with Jonathan and Jackie in supporting their efforts to bring clean water to villages in the Nakasongola District of Uganda. We are also working with them in our student sponsorship program. There are 31 registered students in African Hope Children’s Ministry. My niece and I, along with Jonathan, Jackie, and her brothers Abbey and Saul (all part of the Unreached Africa team) visited each student and his/her family in their homes. These visits included 8 home visits in the Kampala area and 23 home visits in four different villages of Nakasongola. We were able to meet each student on behalf of his/her sponsor. The graciousness and outpouring of love that we received from each family was overwhelming. Over and over again I daily asked the Lord, “Who am I?” Who am I to be the recipient of such a lavish display of love from these dear people as daily they gave us gifts of matoke, cassava, potatoes, chicken, goats, sugar cane, mangos, and above all, their friendship.
We will always remember each of these beautiful students and are so thankful for each sponsor who has committed to standing along side us in this sponsorship program. We wish that every sponsor could have been with us to receive the heartfelt hugs from each family. We can say to our sponsors that your sponsorship has truly brought hope to these students…we saw it over and over again. These students pray for you, they save your letters as treasured possessions…and they might even plant a mango tree in your honor!
Our hope is for Jackie to come to San Antonio towards the end of March for about five weeks. Our goal is for multiple sponsorships for each student. If we have 4 sponsors per student we will ensure that most of their needs will be met. Jackie will be coming to meet with as many of our current sponsors as is possible and to seek new sponsors to stand with us.
Our trip to Uganda and particularly to Nakasongola encouraged us greatly. Seeing the water wells and meeting the students face to face…these are priceless memories.
Blessings and blue skies to you each!
